Katja Herbers was born in Germany to Vera Beths, a violinist and Werner Herbers, an oboist. When she was a kid, Katja Herbers accompanied her mother on a trip across America in the chamber orchestra L'Archibudelli. Her mother remarried cellist Anner Bylsma, and her father got married to costume designer Leonie the Polak who introduced her to the theatre.
